The Yallar Hammer is one of the most iconic trout flies ever created, that nobody knows. Its origins have been traced back to the Cherokee people, with variations of the pattern believed to have been fished since the 1500s, making it one of the oldest continuously used fly patterns in North America.

Originally tied with feathers from the yellowhammer bird, these flies are now tied with quail or partridge due to conservation regulations. The pattern has evolved over time and is now tied as a dry fly, nymph, and Woolly Worm, while maintaining the characteristics that have made it a favorite for generations.

The Yallar Hammer excels during the summer months, when it effectively imitates Yellow Sallies, Yellow Jackets, and other yellow-bodied insects. Its versatility and centuries-long track record continue to make it a trusted pattern for trout anglers throughout the Southern Appalachians and beyond.
